#6 - You are what you eat

1- What I want to talk about this week

This week, I wanted to talk about nutrition. I think the fact that I worked during 4 years with nutritionists really helped my personal growth journey. After all, the cells in your body use the nutrients you eat to regenerate. Hence the saying "You are what you eat".

People often think only about health & fitness, but what you eat affects how your brain feeds and the hormones you produce, so it affect how smart and focused you are and your mood. That's a lot!

This is why I now take nutrition very seriously and create programs about it. Now it is probably the most challenging part of the programs I do because:

  1. The science is often controversial
  2. It is very personal

So I can't really tell you "Eat a plant-based diet", "Eat a ketogenic diet", "Take these supplements", etc... All I can do is share where I'm at after listening to the most renown nutritionists, biohackers and athletes and after having experimented a few different ways to eat. I am not a nutritionist and can't tell you what to do, but I can make it super easy for you to try different diets and to understand their benefits and the science behind.

This is why I can't put everything together in one program. The nutrition program is about the fundamentals of a healthy diet and changing some nasty habits, then I'll work on "weeks" where you can test something and judge for yourself. I have just finished "Intermittent Fasting" and will do "Supplements", "Plant-based" and "Ketogenic" weeks in the future.

If you're interested in where I'm at now, I eat 90% of the time vegan meals (for ethical, environmental and health reasons), skip breakfast, eat low-carb and avoid processed foods and sugar. I stopped coffee and barely drink any alcohol. I take a bit of supplements on top.

In the past 2 months I was experimenting with Isagenix but I'll drop it. I think it's great for many people but because I already eat super healthy I don't really need any meal replacement shakes and prefer to eat mainly real food.

2- Great content of the week

Obviously nutrition is only part of it, this is why we have a holistic view to look, feel and perform better. I came across Ben Greenfield thanks to Mind Valley and wanted to share this talk with you. It can be a bit overwhelming but it is interesting to see what is possible to reverse ageing. I'll try to do the Telomere test when I'm in the US.

When you combine this with Ray Kurzweil's optimistic views on the progress of biohacking and regenerative medicine, it would make sense to start taking good care of our health. When you think long-term, it can be a good idea to prioritise your health because with the progress of medicine, being biologically 1 year younger Today could mean several years in a not so distant future.

On an unrelated subject, but if you need a great podcast to listen to, I thought I would recommend the most recommended podcast by Tim Ferriss, the one with Jamie Foxx. It is quite long and conversational but really interesting.

3- UNLOCKT news

Some exciting news this week:

  • 5 new members with William, Jean-Paul, Mathieu, Paddy and Olivia. Mathieu is already quite active on Slack. For the other ones, no obligation but feel free to join on Slack and introduce yourselves.
  • We have just finished the new version of the website Today!
  • We have finished the Intermittent Fasting Week Today.

I had no interviews this week, but as Paddy just joined, I invite you to have a look at the interview we did together last week.

Big shoutout to you as you helped me from the very beginning and welcome to the community mate!

Excited to be interviewing Olivia on Tuesday 8pm. Olivia is a Yoga teacher, Siddha Yoga practitioner and wellness mentor. She spent some time with the Dalai Lama back in the 90s and used her yoga practice to meet and forgive the person who murdered her father.
